My Mind: April 2006

So, one time, at band camp....

Well, I feel like I should have something deep and meaningful to write about, but I really don't.

It is once again being demonstrated just how schizophrenic Mother Nature can be. Today is FREEZING!!!!!

This past weekend was fantastic! Seth spent the weekend, and we ate, drank, and gardened LOL. It was a thouroughly enjoyable weekend. Just simple and laid back, the way a weekend should be.

Other than that, I have no real business.

Found this on another blog, wanted to share :-)

What a week

As if the drama on Sunday/Monday wasn't enough, on Tuesday night, Seth came over, and we had a great night. Wednesday morning, we go to leave, and discover that I can't find my keys. So, needless to say, I start tearing up the house looking all over for them. Something told me to check Reggi's jacket pocket. Guess what I found? Not my keys, but his. He was in such a rush to leave for work (he leaves before I do in the mornings), that he grabbed my keys off the table, not noticing the GLARING difference in them, and hurried off to work downtown.

Needless to say, I had to first wait an hour for him to get to work on Metra, then, he had to go and catch another train to get back home. I had planned to leave the house by 8:00 A.M., but instead left at 10:40. We were not amused! LOL

The other fun thing to happen, little Miss Murphy decided it would be fun to play "chew through the laptop power cord". So, I have a dead laptop. Went to Best Buy to try and buy a replacement power source, and becasue it is me we are talking about it, it doesn't work!

So, I have to return that and get my $110 back, and order a true replacement from Toshiba, and it won't make it to me for 1 to 2 WEEKS. So much for my portable computing needs!

This weekend should be really good though. After work, I will be picking Seth up, and he will be spending the weekend at my place, so all should be love :-)

Before I forget!!!! I want to wish a VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO JOHN!!!! HOPE IT IS A GREAT ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I also want to wish a HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Evan, whose birthday was Wednesday!!!

Rain, rain go away

This weekend has been a mixed bag.

I have strep throat, again! Fortunately, unlike last year, I have it BEFORE my birthday, so I guess at least the timing is better. If you're going to be sick, at least don't be sick on your birthday.

Saturday, Seth and I went to the drive in out in the Western Suburbs. It was cute. We saw Scary Movie 4, which, while not quite as good as the others, was still funny.

Sunday on the other hand, was hell, at least Sunday night was. Things started out well, but then the storms began. We had A LOT of rain, and around midnight, Reggi noticed that there was some water in our basement. Upon further inspection, there wasn't SOME water, but rather a HELL OF A LOT OF WATER. As fast as we would try to get it up with the wet vac, it was right back. We filled the wet vac over 20 times! The thing holds 8 gallons, which means we pumped over 160 gallons of water out of the basement, and that was just up till 3 A.M., when it was necessary to get some sleep.

Needless to say, I am going into the office late, since it was necessary to vac things up AGAIN this morning. Thankfully, the rain has stopped, and the sun is shining today. The other good thing is, while the office downstairs did flood, the computer, being higher up on its stand, survived, but due to there being some residule water, I will be using the laptop upstairs for a while. Thank God for Wi-Fi :-)

More later!

Seth and Me

06 April 2006

Why is it........

That all aspects of life can't be in sync? When the personal life is going very well, the work life is horrendous. When the career is going well, the personal life is non existant.

Things with Seth are going really well, and I feel blessed to have him in my life. Everything is going great on the personal front.

The job, however, is another story ALL TOGETHER.

I have never been as miserable at any job as I am becoming here. All they constantly do is reduce the number of employees, throw the work on already overburdened staff, and expect it all to be done in the same amount of time, and with no raise in sight.

I would say this is a problem with my company, but it is increasingly the norm in corporate America. Employers want more for less, all the while making the economic gap bigger between the have's and have not's. These companies don't seem to realize, once you demoralize a workforce, and limit the prospect of upward mobility, health costs will increase, as unhappy workers tend to have higher rates of absenteeism due to stress related health conditions, or shear burnout. Also, as wages stagnate, the ability of consumers to buy products will decrease as well. This ultimately affects the bottom line, and the cycle continues....

I guess it is all a part of the lack of foresight that is becoming an ever increasing part of American life.

I'm done ranting............for now!
